Telstra Emerging Choreographer

The Australian Ballet and Telstra

Calling emerging choreographers! The Telstra Emerging Choreographer (TEC) initiative is back for 2022. Created last year by The Australian Ballet in partnership with Telstra, TEC is a pathway for emerging choreographers from all genres of dance to develop their skills and foster their talent. This year up to three aspiring choreographers will receive funding to create a dance film, and the winner will receive a cash prize of $10,000 and be entered into The Australian Ballet’s choreography development program Bodytorque in 2023.

Apply before Monday 11 July at https://australianballet.com.au/telstra-emerging-choreographer

Choreographers are welcome from all genres of dance to apply from today until Monday 11 July 11:59pm by submitting a short-written statement and video (1-2 minutes) on what they would like to create using the theme “Identity” as their inspiration.

Up to three finalists will be selected by our judges David Hallberg, Artistic Director of The Australian Ballet, Stephanie Lake, Director of Stephanie Lake Company and Josh Wright, CEO & Artistic Director of Dancehouse.

The finalists will be commissioned to create their dance film (4-6 minutes) based on their application, each receiving $3,000 to create their work.

The winner will receive a cash prize of $10,000 and be entered into The Australian Ballet’s choreography development program Bodytorque in 2023.
