What is Access in Dance?

Free Forum on July 29

Ausdance NSW & VIC together with Arts Access VIC and Accessible Arts NSW will join forces to present a free public forum on accessible dance education, training and practice.

In a ‘double-act’, CEO of Arts Access VIC Melbourne-based and internationally acclaimed Disabled Choreographer, Caroline Bowditch chats with Arts Development Officer of Accessible Arts NSW, Sydney-based Musician/ Composer Liz Martin. Probed by Ausdance NSW’s Projects & Programs Manager and Performance Researcher Kate Maguire-Rosier, Caroline and Liz outline the politics, language, and processes relating to the disability arts community and address what accessible dance can look like today. They will also answer your questions about disability sectors accessing dance.

Key questions:

  • What do you think about when you think about dance and disability?
  • What has your experience been teaching as a teacher with disability, or with disabled students?
  • Have you seen a performance by a disabled choreographer? What was it?
  • What does access and inclusion mean to you in the context of dance education or professional practice?
  • How does access enhance dance training and making?

The organisers are inviting questions and comments from attendees in advance. Please email questions for potential discussion during the forum to Kate Maguire-Rosier on

This workshop will have live open captioning and will be Auslan interpreted. If you have any other access requirements please advise when registering.
