Wayfinder

The Art House Wyong

A kaleidoscopic fusion of dance, music and visual art will explode onto The Art House Wyong’s stage in Wayfinder, the new work from Dancenorth Australia that will activate the senses.

Directed by Amber Haines and Kyle Page, Wayfinder is an immersive and joyfully upbeat experience. Visually stunning and sonically mesmerizing, this high-intensity contemporary work incorporates a custom inflatable stage to empower dancers to perform incredible mid-air feats. More than 60KMs of salvaged wool will also be incorporated into the performance. Vividly dyed and weaved into dynamic textile installations by over 150 volunteer finger-knitters, these flowing, ethereal pieces inspire rainbow-tinged wonder as they flex from towering monuments to individual threads.

The production also utilises more than 100 luminous ‘pearls’ designed in collaboration with Japanese-Australian visual artist Hiromi Tango. These sound and light emitting balls will be distributed throughout the theatre, with each containing a speaker that acts as a cipher for an individual voice. When activated together, they create their own immersive sonic and lighting installation.

Grammy nominated Australian band Hiatus Kaiyote and sound artist Byron J. Scullin have also been enlisted to create Wayfinder’s distinct soundscape, creating a soaring composition that perfectly expresses the overarching themes of joy, discovery, and connection.

The breakout hit of Brisbane Festival 2023, Wayfinder is a sensory feast of movement and ideas. Playfully complex, this daring new contemporary dance work is coming to The Art House Wyong for one night only on October 11th.

Tickets are on-sale now.

“Playful, colourful and immersive dance lights up with joy and hope.” – The Guardian
“Three curtain calls. A standing ovation. Thunderous applause.” – Nothing Ever
Happens in Brisbane
“Joy and hope are essential conditions of art, one reason we make and see it. Here it was
given in abundance. Thank you Dancenorth.” – Sydney Arts Guide
