Prix de Lausanne 2023

International ballet competition – Beaulieu Theatre (Lausanne)

The Lifetime Achievement Award 2023 will be handed to Carlos Acosta CBE, Prix de Lausanne Prize Winner in 1990 and current Director of the Birmingham Royal Ballet. Two new teachers are joining the competition’s artistic team. The 50th anniversary complete programme, topped-up with an extraordinary Gala of the Stars on Sunday, 5 February is now confirmed.

Lifetime Achievement Award to Carlos Acosta

At the end of its Finals, the Prix de Lausanne will award Cuban dancer and Birmingham Royal Ballet Director Carlos Acosta. Gold Medalist of the 1990 Prix de Lausanne, Carlos Acosta is one of the true success stories of our competition. Since his consecration in Lausanne, his career has literally taken off, as an international artist with the Royal Ballet but also as a guest artist with prestigious companies such as the American Ballet Theatre, the Houston Ballet, the English National Ballet and the Birmingham Royal Ballet, where he was appointed Artistic Director in 2020.To be handing him the 2023 Lifetime Achievement Award while celebrating our 50th anniversary truly holds a particular emotion.

Two new teachers in the competition

The Prix de Lausanne is honoured to welcome two new teachers in its artistic team. Classical classes for boys will be taught by Julio Bocca, former Principal at the American Ballet Theatre and former Director at the Uruguay National Ballet. Contemporary classes will be given by Lakey E. Peña, Rehearsal Director at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.
