Australia’s leading Indigenous performing arts company, Bangarra Dance Theatre, is set to captivate audiences with Sheltering, a powerful triple bill touring nationally from May to July 2026. Featuring Keeping Grounded, Brown Boys, and Sheoak, this program honours Bangarra’s rich legacy while showcasing innovative storytelling and First Nations perspectives.
An intergenerational thread connects the works, exploring the deep bonds between people, land, and culture. Keeping Grounded, choreographed by Indjalandji-Dhidhanu and Alyewarre woman Glory Tuohy-Daniell, examines our energetic connection to country and the challenges of staying culturally rooted in a rapidly changing world.
Brown Boys, a groundbreaking film by Daniel Mateo and Cass Mortimer Eipper, delves into identity, belonging, and cultural connection, blending dance, narrative, and cinematic artistry. Sheoak, choreographed by Mirning woman and Bangarra artistic director Frances Rings with music by composer David Page, is a meditation on resilience, cultural identity, and the sacred connection to country.
Together, these three works explore vital First Nations social and cultural themes, reimagining shelter as a sacred, transformative space for protection, storytelling, and intergenerational connection. Frances Rings reflects: “Intergenerational storytelling is an important part of my artistic vision for Bangarra… commissioning fresh voices cultivates continuity between tradition and innovation.”
Tickets go on sale to the public from 17 November 2025, with exclusive presale for Bangarra Community and subscribers. Visit bangarra.com.au to join the waitlist and secure your seats.
