Austinmer Dance Theatre’s 2019 Season PerformanceBUT WHY, Austinmer DT

Double Bill by Eipper and Forté  |  June 28-29

Austinmer Dance Theatre’s 2019 performance year click’s into gear with this impressive double bill featuring the work of former Sydney Dance Company member Cass Mortimer Eipper and Austinmer Dance Theatre’s Artistic Director Michelle Forté.

Mortimer Eipper’s, Pastiching Tetsuo, is a Westerner’s tribute to the Japanese practice of Anime. A reworked, reinterpreted mix and match of some of Japan’s most influential pop-cultured artefacts, Mortimer Eipper’s work aims to shape new worlds that are familiar but unique and discordant yet structured.

While Forté’s, Life Interrupted, explores the Australian Women’s prison system and the effects of incarceration on the greater community. Constantly challenging the creativity of herself and her dancers, Forté delves further into the use of text combined with abstract dance to generate a unique theatre experience.

Austinmer Dance Theatre has been attracting dancers from all over Australia since 2011 and is currently made up of members from Queensland, Perth, Melbourne, Nowra, Sydney & Wollongong.

This double bill is their first production for 2019 entitled, BUT WHY, is built on 14 technically strong and committed dancers all between the ages of 17-25yrs. Tapping into the variety of skills and training backgrounds of all company members to produce this moving and enlightening evening of pure contemporary dance.

With a cast consisting of graduates from leading training organisations such as Tanya Pearson’s Classical Coaching Academy, Ev&Bow, Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company, Sydney Dance Company Pre-Professional Year, LINK Dance Company, QUT, QNB and Newcastle Ballet Theatre just to name a few, this production promises a high level of technical and artistic quality.

Last year the Company was fortunate enough to be awarded the Critic’s Choice Award for their production of CONNECT at the Sydney Fringe Festival and were also finalists from a Nationwide field in the annual AUSDANCE Awards for their 2017 production – UNREAL.

BUT WHY is suitable for all ages, and audiences can expect to be taken on a memorable journey which explores the power of dance and theatre, with both pieces bringing their own unique creative stamp. 2019 is proving that Austinmer Dance Theatre continues to impress and deliver relevant contemporary dance stories to life.
