2018 Dance Teacher Awards & Teaching Festival

9 March, Perth

The 2018 Dance Teacher Awards will honour inspiring teachers at a gala event that will recognise and acknowledge dance teachers who have chosen this profession as their main occupation and vocation.
Since 2016, the annual dance teacher awards have featured dance teachers from across Australia.
The function of the Awards is to honour and celebrate dance teachers as well as:

  • Raise the profile of the dance teaching profession
  • Acknowledge high standards and excellence in dance teaching, training, special projects, charity work, longevity,
  • Celebrate dance teachers in the many facets and forms they teach in

Dance teaching covers a broad range of disciplines and genres in a variety of learning environments and the following roles will be acknowledged and recognised in the following categories:

This year sees the introduction of a new category – People’s Choice. This involves teachers getting likes and shares on Facebook and Instagram.
The winner of the People’s Choice will be the teacher whom receives the most ‘likes’ and ‘shares’ via social media.
3,600 hits and likes were reached and now we have our People’s Choice winner and also other winners from other categories.
Nominations for all categories were held throughout 2017 and have now closed and the winners will be revealed on Friday 9 March 2018 at the John Curtin College of the Arts Theatre Perth, which opens the Dance Teaching Festival.
The night will feature teachers from across Australia as well as live dance performances. Some of the teachers will be flying to Perth for the night, other teachers will appear via video.
Special guests at the Awards will be Minister Yang MLC representing the Minister of the Arts, and Professor Scott Putman, Virginia Commonwealth University who will be our master teacher at the Dance Teaching Festival.
The event will be live streamed for teachers across Australia to watch.
