The new year’s steamiest show offers free Waltz classes before the show in January

The Merry Widow | Sydney Opera House

The Sydney Opera House will become a hub of dance activity this summer as theatre-goers are treated to free waltz classes ahead of performances of the Great Gatsby-style operetta, The Merry Widow by Opera Australia.
Led by award-winning dance coach, Jason Duff, the lessons are sure to get audiences into a toe-tapping mood ahead of the show that has critics raving for its sumptuous art deco sets, gorgeous costumes and of course the brilliant direction and choreography of Graeme Murphy.
Classes are free for all ticket holders and will be held thirty minutes before evening and matinée shows from 2-13 January 2018.
The young and young-at-heart, regardless of their dancing ability, are invited to participate in these relaxed classes, to be held on the balcony adjacent the Southern Foyer of the Sydney Opera House.
This is a fabulous opportunity for waltz enthusiasts to showcase their moves and for novices to learn a timeless skill at one of Australia’s most iconic settings, the Sydney Opera House.
“My first formal dance step was a waltz… I waltzed through countless performances and thousands of miles”, said Murphy.
Now one of the foremost leaders in Australia’s contemporary theatre culture, Murphy has come a long way since that first waltz.
“Oozing art deco opulence, this shimmering, all-singing, all-dancing Broadway style show risks bubbling over like a bottle of Bollinger” – The Age
