Inspired Dance Film Fest Australia Shines Focus on Australian Dance Talent

New Section Added for Schools – Deadline Sept 30

In the 6 months since Inspired Dance Film Fest Australia (IDFFA) opened online submissions this year, the inaugural festival has already received 44 film submissions from 14 different countries across the globe.

IDFFA is an international dance on film festival with a core focus on nurturing the dance on film industry in Australia. Created to provide choreographers, dancers, and filmmakers from all around the world a vehicle to present dance on film, generate a hub that connects both industries and brings a new audience of dance lovers to the cinema. The main open competition for 20230 closes with an extended deadline of September 30.

Now, due to overwhelming demand, a schools component has been added to the program cresting the IDFFA Schools Festival.  Run as a separate festival with the goal to galvanise part-time, full-time, and secondary dance schools and students to expand their creativity and explore, bold, innovative concepts on film.

Their mission is to inspire studios and students to produce awe-inspiring dance on film, educate new filmmakers by way of masterclasses and workshops, and elevate the dance community by showcasing your sensational films at our Schools Gala. We encourage both schools and students to embrace the inclusive spirit of the festival by brandishing your talent in a fun, creative format.

Submissions are still open to both festivals with the extended deadline closing Saturday 20 September 2020.

The Schools Festival will be held alongside the IDFFA Gala screening to be held Sunday 8 November 2020, which will highlight the finalists and winners. Tickets for the Festival will go on sale in late September 2020.

IDFFA supports Cure Brain Cancer Foundation with a portion of ticket sales going to support this worthy charity. The foundation has special significance to co-founder Ian Knowles who was diagnosed with a grade 4 brain tumour (Glioblastoma Multiforme) in 2013. He is one of the lucky survivors and is grateful to be able to inspire and encourage the dance industry while helping to fund brain cancer research.

Both festivals are supported by ambassadors Todd McKenney, Kelley Abbey, Jason Gilkison, Sarah Boulter, Dein Perry, Deborah Brown, Aaron Cash and Stephen Tannos.

“A huge part of my creative inspiration has always come from seeing incredible stories unfold on film, and when this is coupled with the medium of dance, the emotional impact can be truly breathtaking. Filming dance has now become such a huge part of my life and choreographing that camera around amazing dancers is one of the most artistically satisfying experiences I could have ever wished for. I am so incredibly honoured to be an ambassador of the Inspired Dance Film Festival Australia and can’t wait to see the magic that can be created …Chookas everyone! “Ambassador Jason Gilkison

IDFFA also hold regular online masterclasses on the skills and processes of creating dance films; and you can get some inspiration from their showcase page.
