Sydney Dance Company Welcomes Three New Members

Company of 18 for 2020

Rhys Kosakowski

Sydney Dance Company is excited to welcome three impressive new dancers to the Company in 2020: Rhys Kosakowski, Dean Elliott and Telea Jensen.

Rhys Kosakowski hails from Newcastle and spent six years with the Houston Ballet Company as a Corps de Ballet dancer after joining the Company when he was 17. He has performed works by Jiří Kylián, William Forsythe and Alexander Ekman. Rhys was cast as Billy in the original 2007 Australian production of Billy Elliot The Musical, and was awarded Best Male Actor at the 2008 Helpmann Awards for his performance.

Dean Elliott is joining the Company full-time after performing with Sydney Dance Company in 2019 on tour and in New Breed. Dean recently played the role of Young Brett Whiteley in Theatre of Image’s Brett and Wendy… A Love Story Bound By Art, and was a special guest artist on the Sydney City Youth Ballet’s Australian tour of Together Live.

Telea Jensen

Telea Jensen studied with Sydney Dance Company’s Pre-Professional Year class of 2019 and has been offered a Trainee contract with the Company. During her Pre-Professional Year she had the opportunity to perform works by Rafael Bonachela, Idan Cohen, Vicki Van Hout and Leah Marojevic. Before moving to Sydney, Telea lived in Queensland and performed with youth companies including Merge Dance Theatre, Expressions Dance Company’s Youth Ensemble and Brisbane City Youth Ballet.

Dean Elliott

Rhys, Dean and Telea will join Sydney Dance Company’s existing Company dancers in 2020:
Juliette Barton, Ariella Casu, Davide Di Giovanni, Janessa Dufty, Riley Fitzgerald, Jacopo Grabar, Liam Green, Luke Hayward, Dimitri Kleioris, Chloe Leong, Jesse Scales, Emily Seymour, Mia Thompson, Chloe Young and Victor Zarallo.

Their first performance with Sydney Dance Company will be the Season One triple bill of work by Rafael Bonachela and William Forsythe, which runs from March 21 to April 4 at the Roslyn Packer Theatre, Walsh Bay. More about the Bonachela/Forsythe triple bill here.
