Selected Candidates and 50th Anniversary

International Ballet Competition

A 9-member Jury panel gathered in Lausanne last weekend to select the candidates for the upcoming Prix de Lausanne. At the end of this video selection, 87 dancers (including 11 preselected candidates) have been selected to participate in the next international ballet competition, from January 29th to February 5th, 2023 at the Beaulieu Theatre in Lausanne. The competition will also be celebrating its 50th anniversary and will be therefore offering many special events around dance, notably a Gala of the Stars, on Sunday, February 5th, 2023.

The Jury for the video selection, made up of 9 professionals from the international dance scene, have watched and judged the videos of 429 applicants (335 girls and 94 boys) from 39 different countries. A total of 76 dancers have been selected via this process, while 11 had already been preselected*.

In total, 87 dancers (46 girls and 41 boys) from 18 different countries are selected to take part in the Prix de Lausanne 2023.

*3 candidates were preselected thanks to the Latin American Video Preselection, 4 during the Japan Preselection and 4 during the Summer Intensive – European Preselection in Lausanne.

Kathryn Bradney, Prix de Lausanne’s Artistic and Executive Director: “How exciting it is to see the high level of the talented young dancers chosen during this year’s video preselection! These exceptional candidates, who will compete in our Prix de Lausanne 2023, will be particularly fortunate as they will be in the spotlight of this historical 50th anniversary edition. They will perform in front of an impressive international Jury while participating in this unique and prestigious event for the dance world. We are looking forward to welcoming them to the newly renovated Beaulieu Theater in Lausanne!”

50 years celebrated in style

It has been 50 years now that the Prix de Lausanne, founded by Elvire and Philippe Braunschweig, receives each year many of talented dancers who come from all over the world hoping to see their career take off. Since 1973, the competition has crowned more than 450 Prize Winners, offered more than 500 scholarships and helped over 1000 dancers all over the world thanks to its financial support programme. It is therefore a whole half-century of ballet history that will be celebrated from January 29th to February 5th, 2023 in the historical setting of the Beaulieu Theatre in Lausanne, which will gather the stars of yesterday, today and tomorrow. Different meetings around dance and the Prix de Lausanne’s archives will take place all week long and will finish with a celebratory Gala of the Stars on Sunday, February 5th 2023, with wonderful artists such as Laura Fernandez, Friedemann Vogel, Mayara Magri, Antonio Casalinho and many more!
