Foundation Program

Queensland Ballet Academy

In response to community feedback, Queensland Ballet Academy is delighted to announce the launch of the new Foundation Program Level 10 for children aged 6 to 8 years in Term 4, 2023.

Bridging the gap between Queensland Ballet’s Petite Pointers courses for 1 to 5-year-olds and Queensland Ballet Academy’s Foundation Program for children from 8 years of age, this new level will be open to young dancers in Years 1 and 2 at school, and scheduled in prime after-school timeslots to assist busy parents and carers. The program is designed for children in the Brisbane metropolitan area, with classes held at the state-of-the-art Academy faculty at Kelvin Grove.

Officially the earliest point of entry into the Academy, Level 10 students will enjoy foundational ballet tuition and complementary activities to nurture a love of the artform and provide early dance experience and development.

Director of the Academy, Christian Tàtchev says, ‘I’m incredibly pleased that the introduction of Level 10 to our Foundation Program will see Queensland Ballet’s complete professional ballet training pathway fully realised. From a child’s first ever ballet class, to graduation as an employment-ready professional dancer, our outstanding teaching faculty will nurture and guide students across 12 levels within our world-class training organisation.’

‘There has been a noticeable drop in boys participating in dance since the pandemic, and we are committed to encouraging young boys and, of course, everyone interested in dance, to take this opportunity to discover ballet and dance through our Foundation Program. In a dedicated, safe and nurturing environment, children can experience and explore dance from an early age.”

Academic year level and age will be used as a guide when placing students within our Foundation Program levels. Student’s current developmental stage, ability and potential are all considered, and placements are made at the discretion of the Director of the Academy.

As the official training organisation of Queensland Ballet, the Academy facilitates the Queensland Ballet Company vision to nurture and support world-class ballet and dance training in Queensland and Australia. We provide professional dance pathways for young dancers, while equipping them with the skills to create a successful career for themselves.
