Rob Guest Endowment Awards 2013

Featuring some of Australia’s biggest names in live entertainment and musical theatre, the Rob Guest Endowment Gala Concert, presented by ANZ Private is at the Sydney Lyric Theatre for one night only on Monday 25 November. Tickets are now on sale and selling fast to this special and unique event featuring established stars of the Australian musical theatre and entertainment industry.
NSW Minister for Tourism, Major Events and the Arts, George Souris said: “In line with its strong commitment to the Arts, the NSW Government, through its tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW, is pleased to support the ANZ Trustees Foundation: Rob Guest Endowment for 2013 -2015.
“I urge Sydneysiders and visitors alike not to miss The Rob Guest Endowment Gala Concert 2013, which will showcase Australian talent; household names in the entertainment industry whose contributions have helped to strengthen NSW’s position as the live performance centre of Australia” Mr Souris said.
The Gala will be hosted by iconic legend of Australian entertainment, BERT NEWTON. Special guest artists featured at the event include ADAM GARCIA, EDDIE PERFECT, TONY SHELDON AND RHONDA BURCHMORE. ADAM GARCIA is best known for his role in the iconic Tap Dogs and films Coyote Ugly and Bootmen. Adam is currently a judge on Channel 7’s Dancing with the Stars. EDDIE PERFECT is most recently known for his role in the Channel 10 drama, Offspring. Eddie has received Helpmann and Green Room awards for Shane Warne: The Musical, of which he was the star, writer and composer. TONY SHELDON played the role of Bernadette in Priscilla, Queen of the Desert for more than 1750 performances in Australia, New Zealand, London, Toronto and New York, winning the Theatre World Award for Outstanding Broadway Debut as well as nominations for a Tony Award, the Drama Desk Award, the Drama League Award and the Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Actor in a Musical. The night will also see performances from cast members of the hit musicals GREASE and KING KONG, as well as a preview performance by cast members of the 2014 musicals THE KING & I and LES MISERABLES.
Now in its fifth year, The ANZ Trustees Foundation: Rob Guest Endowment, with the support of Destination NSW, is intended to help a current artist in the musical theatre genre gain the performance experience, media training, guidance and a public image to help them become leading artists in the Australian Musical Theatre Industry.
The six finalists for 2013 are Euan Doidge, Rob Mallett, Edward Grey, Angelique Cassimatis, Elisa Colla and Samantha- Leigh Dodemaide. The Gala will also showcase the talents of the six finalists vying for a scholarship for young artists to develop as performers through experience, travel and tuition.
These finalists will be put to the test by four judges who each have years of experience in the entertainment industry both in Australia and internationally. STEPHEN OREMUS is an international Musical Director, supervisor and orchestrator and multi Tony Award winner whose credits include Kinky Boots, The Book of Mormon, and WICKED worldwide. STUART MAUNDER, for the last thirty years has been directing musical theatre and opera in Australia, working on many successful productions which have appeared in the UK, France and the US. Musical director, KELLIE DICKERSON has toured Australia and New Zealand extensively with many performances. Through 2012/2013 she was the musical director for the Australian production of Legally Blonde. JASON COLEMAN has been a fixture of the Australian dance scene for more than twenty years. In 2008 Jason opened ‘Ministry of Dance’ – the largest dance school in the southern hemisphere, located in Melbourne.
The late Rob Guest, had a career that spanned over 40 years, making him a much loved Musical Theatre star and a household name to audiences throughout Australia New Zealand and overseas. The ANZ Trustees Foundation: Rob Guest Endowment fund was set up as a tribute to this outstanding performer to continue his work in nurturing and progressing young developing talent in the Musical Theatre industry.
