Short+Sweet low-res

The biggest little arts festival in the world opens at Chapel Off Chapel in Prahran on Tuesday 20th November!

Short+Sweet Melbourne 2012 is set to serve up the best and brightest new dance, theatre and cabaret in a smorgasbord of 10-minute works over three fabulous weeks.
Packaged into nightly shows of 8-10 works, Short+Sweet tix are perfect for those looking for an exciting and diverse live theatre arts experience.
With more than 90 works on offer, 2012 is the biggest Short+Sweet Melbourne ever. Religious dogs, memory thieves, monsters under the bed, affairs, a Klezmer band, police investigations, political prisoners, kings, an understudy, outlaws, sisters, a bride, creatures of the night, a Lithuanian grandma, a Christmas diva, and ‘Oprah’ rub shoulders in a program that is as risky as it is entertaining, as enlightening as it is absurd.
Each night international award-winning choreographers, actors and performers will take to the Chapel Off Chapel stages with the cream of Melbourne’s emerging talent, in a delightful mix of comedy, drama, horror, history and mystery.
Eschewing the traditional genre boundaries, Short+Sweet cabaret, dance and theatre artists create intimate little slices of performance gold for the entertainment of theatre stalwarts and new arts audiences alike.

Highlights of the Short+Sweet Melbourne Festival 2012 include:

* Award-winning Melbourne actor and impro-artist extraordinaire, Jenny Lovell, in In The Parlour
* Up-and-coming actor / director Matt O’Reilly in Ringwood
* Taylor Klaus in My Little Shtetl, the life story of Taylor Klaus’s 98-year-old grandma, told partly in Yiddish with the backing of a Klezmer band.
* New dance works by international award-winning choreographers Charmaine Dully (Canada, Ireland), Lina Limonsani (Chunky Move, Australian Dance Theatre; Scotland, Holland), and Tim Harbour (Australian Ballet, New York City Ballet)
* ‘Creature of the night’, Zak Love, featuring costumes designed by Poly Filla
* Tragicomical bride, Lucy Gransbury, in Dragostea Mea
* Star of Rock Of Ages, Rachel Dunham, playing Oprah Winfrey in Oprahfication
* Cabaret favourite Kitty Bang (Kate Boston Smith) in A Very Kitty Christmas
* An understudy who dreams of finally getting the top gig, new mum Amanda Buckley in Hayley Burton — Ready To Role.
