When you meet Max Simmons, the first thing you notice is his energy. The Sydney-based dancer has already ticked off milestones that many only dream of — performing alongside Katy Perry, starring in a Prime Video series, dancing for global brands, and assisting internationally acclaimed choreographers. With his sights now set on the world stage, Max’s story is one of hard work, mentorship, and artistry that speaks for itself.
Shaped by Mentorship
Max’s career has been influenced by some of the most respected choreographers in the industry. Among them is Cassie Bartho (whose credits include Doja Cat, Katseye, and J Balvin). “Cassie has taught me that good enough isn’t enough. Her drive for excellence has shaped my whole approach,” Max reflects. That mentorship has extended into professional collaborations, with Max assisting Cassie across projects — a sign of the trust and respect he has earned.
Performing with Global Icons
In 2024, Max stepped onto one of the biggest stages in the world — as a featured dancer for Katy Perry’s AFL Grand Final performance in front of 100,000 fans. “It was surreal. Training alongside LA’s best, then performing with Katy, showed me I was capable of more than I imagined.” The moment affirmed his place in the industry and fuelled his ambition to keep reaching higher.
Company Work and Artistic Growth
As a featured artist in major stage productions like The Dream Dance Company’s Gode and New Era, Max discovered the discipline of moving as one with a company while staying true to his individuality. Collaborations with creative leaders such as Marko Panzic, Matthew Gode, and Paris Cavanagh have expanded his artistry and deepened his understanding of professional performance.
Versatility Across Worlds
From the theatrical spectacle of the Metaverse of Magic international tour to the authenticity of the Sydney Mardi Gras campaign, Max has proven himself adaptable and versatile. “Every job is different. Touring requires larger-than-life energy; campaigns demand small, honest movements. Both teach you to know who you are and read your audience.”
Recognition by Global Brands
Max’s career has also been stamped by trust from international powerhouses. Performances for Vogue, Netflix, Amex, Hermes, Pepsi, Virgin Australia, and more show his professionalism is in demand at the highest level. “Being recognised by these brands is validation that my work is resonating.”
A Story on Screen
Millions of viewers discovered Max through Prime Video’s docuseries Dancelife, where he was featured across all five episodes. “It was wild at first having cameras capture everything, but it gave me the chance to show who I am — not just as a dancer, but as a person.” The series grew his platform, boosted teaching opportunities, and cemented him as a role model for young dancers across Australia.
International Readiness
In Los Angeles, Max achieved a long-time dream when he assisted Nika Kljun at Millennium Dance Complex — a choreographer known for her work with Beyoncé, Justin Bieber, and Jennifer Lopez. “To be trusted by Nika in that space affirmed I’m ready for the international stage.”
Back home, Max has assisted leading Australian icons including Stephen Tannos, Hopper Doyle, Matthew Gode, Cassie Bartho, and Devante Latorre at the country’s premier conventions. These experiences honed his teaching skills and reaffirmed his commitment to excellence.
Inspiring the Next Generation
Max continues to teach and share his expertise at workshops around Australia. “It’s my job to nurture the next generation, just like my mentors did for me. At the same time, I’m chasing my own dreams — and I hope that inspires them too.”
Building Towards the Global Stage
Recent milestones — like dancing at Netflix’s Wednesday premiere alongside Jenna Ortega and performing for artist Peach PRC — prove that Max is already bridging into the international market. “Every opportunity feels like another step closer to where I’m heading,” he says.
The Dream Ahead
Ask Max about the future, and his answer is clear: “Touring the world with the biggest artists is 100% the dream. What excites me most is sharing my love for dance globally — and hopefully inspiring others to chase their own dreams like I’m chasing mine.”
Max Simmons’ career showcases the hallmarks of an extraordinary artist: mentorship under world-class choreographers, international brand recognition, global media exposure, and an undeniable drive to inspire. His journey has already lit the path for countless young dancers — and it’s only just beginning.
