Sydney’s Independent Dance Festival Wants to Hear from You!

After its successful debut in 2019, March Dance was excited to return in 2020 bringing together Sydney’s diverse dance artists and celebrate in delivering their works to a wider audience. However, the global COVID-19 viral pandemic put a sudden stop to that.

To help March Dance plan in moving forward with the event, the organisers are asking that its supporters respond to an online survey about how to deliver the event successfully in the future for both artists and audiences.

The month-long festival in 2019 saw over 60 dance events over 31 days by 9 companies and 50 artists in the form of new dance works, workshops, dance classes, residencies, sharings, screenings, forums and talks. Showcasing dance artists and organisations in a range of spaces and contexts.

March Dance has been created to support independent dance artists in Sydney. It is a project of Independent Dance Alliance (IDA), a collaboration between Critical Path, DirtyFeet and Readymade Works, who have joined forces with other companies and organisations to facilitate artists’ participation in this month-long dance festival, celebrating the culture of independent dance in Sydney. Together they have created March Dance a place to shine the spotlight on independent dance.

Working with other companies and organisations and independent artists, they present a month-long dance festival, celebrating the culture of independent dance in Sydney. March Dance 2020 was originally conceived as 176 dance events in 31 days; with 198 artists and over 16 organisations in Sydney.
