Sydney Fringe Festival bursts into life this September with more than 460 events across 10 festival hubs. As NSW’s largest independent arts festival, it celebrates theatre, music, comedy, circus, cabaret — and a dynamic lineup of dance experiences that promise to light up the city.
From boundary-pushing contemporary performances to immersive cultural showcases, dance lovers will find something to inspire, challenge, and entertain across the month-long program.
Dance Highlights at Sydney Fringe
The Dance Hub @ Sydney Dance Company’s Neilson Studio (24 – 27 September)
This dedicated hub spotlights outstanding contemporary dance from local and international artists. Highlights include:
- For You to Know and Me to Find Out by multidisciplinary New Zealand artist Liv Tennet, a raw and moving solo that examines matrescence and the transformation of motherhood.
- MOVE FM, a collection of short works co-created and performed by Sydney’s next generation of contemporary dance makers and performers.
Triptych – Eternity Playhouse (2 – 27 September)
Award-winning choreographer-director Lewis Major presents a critically acclaimed triple bill that pushes contemporary dance into bold and unexpected territory.
The Ghana Road Show – Eternity Playhouse (2 – 27 September)
A vibrant, high-energy fusion of movement, rhythm, and storytelling that celebrates the richness and diversity of West African culture.
Mass Effect – Touring Hub, New Theatre (10 – 27 September)
From Denmark’s Himherandit Productions comes this electrifying, high-intensity dance work exploring physical endurance and the power of group dynamics.
SUPERPOSITION – Made in Canberra at PACT Centre for Emerging Artists (17 – 20 September)
Choreographers Gabriel Sinclair and Jazmyn Carter bring an inventive dance work informed by quantum mechanics, layered with a constantly evolving soundscape.
STILL FALL – TheLab@UNSW (12 – 28 September)
An experimental dance performance that integrates cameras, green screens, and filters to reveal the messy intersection of our physical and digital identities.
And What Will People Say? – Lane Cove Festival @ Sydney Fringe (5 September launch)
An immersive performance using Indian dance, music, and storytelling to explore the powerful themes of domestic violence and cultural expectation.
