The Australian Ballet has announced its 2026 On Tour program, bringing the joy and artistry of ballet to regional communities across Australia from July to August 2026. In partnership with The Australian Ballet School and Principal Partner Telstra, the Company will travel to Narre Warren, Albury, Ballarat, Horsham, Mildura, Adelaide, Darwin and Alice Springs, continuing its long-standing commitment to sharing world-class dance beyond the major capitals.
At the heart of the tour is The Nutcracker Act II, adapted by Paul Knobloch, transporting audiences to the enchanting Land of Sweets. Set to Tchaikovsky’s beloved score, the production unites performers from both The Australian Ballet and The Australian Ballet School, offering a vibrant celebration of tradition, storytelling, and pure theatrical delight. Additional repertoire for the 2026 season will be announced next year.
Artistic Director David Hallberg emphasised the importance of touring, saying:
“One of the most exciting things about our On Tour program is getting to bring ballet directly to the communities we visit. Sharing live performance, inspiring young dancers, and welcoming new audiences – that’s what makes touring so special.”
He added that alongside The Nutcracker Act II, audiences can expect a mix of classical favourites and fresh new works that embody the artistry, precision and creativity of The Australian Ballet.
Beyond the stage, the 2026 tour delivers rich community engagement. Audiences can attend Class on Tour, offering an intimate look at the dancers’ daily training, with artistic staff guiding viewers through the discipline and preparation behind each performance. Young dancers will also have the opportunity to deepen their skills through Youth Masterclasses, led by teaching artists from both The Australian Ballet and The Australian Ballet School.
The Company’s Education and Outreach team will further extend the experience with immersive programs for all ages, including Dancing Story (ages 3–5), school incursions, youth workshops, adult and senior classes, and professional development for educators. Expressions of interest for these offerings are now open, with dates to be announced soon.
Since 2001, Principal Partner Telstra has proudly supported The Australian Ballet On Tour, reflecting a shared commitment to accessibility and to celebrating the impact of live performance in communities nationwide.
