Company Premiere by Wild Hearts Youth Dance Co
Wild Hearts Youth Dance Company presents its debut work comprising 15 talented female dancers between the ages of 12 and 17, selected from across the Sydney region.
Company founder and artistic director, Angela Hamilton, said “VAIHTOVIRTA is inspired by Nordic culture, mysticism and the phenomenon of the Northern Lights, contrasting against the darkness of winter … it is a metaphor for the treacherous yet beautiful experience it is for a girl to claim her power in womanhood.”
The work has been created during the company’s first dance program with the selected cast: ‘Project One – 360° Dance Work.’ Wild Hearts catapults these young dancers out of their comfort zone and into the world of professional contemporary performance.
VAIHTOVIRTA, meaning ‘alternate current’ in Finnish, is a coming of age journey exploring cross-cultural rites of passage and coming of age ceremonies, influenced by Nordic music, folklore and mysticism. While reflecting our tribal nature, VAIHTOVIRTA takes us on a journey of self-discovery through human connection, nature and ritual.
