Australia Day Honours for Dancers

Chrissie Parrott, Kenneth Watkins, Winitha Bonney, Brett Morgan

Four Recognised for Contributions to Australian Dance

Congratulations to the four recipients recognised in the 2021 Australia Day Honours List.

Receiving an Honorary Officer (AO) in the General Division are:

  • Chrissie Parrott from Western Australia for distinguished service to the performing arts, particularly to dance, as a performer, choreographer and director, and through mentoring roles. A former dancer with the West Australian Ballet and One Extra Dance Company, Chrissie has been also been a teacher, lecturer and professor in dance education as well as founder of the Chrissie Parrott Dance Company and Resident Artist of Black Swan State Theatre Company.
  • Kenneth Watkins from Victoria for significant service to the performing arts, particularly to ballet. Kenneth has worked for the Australian Ballet and  Queensland Performing Arts Trust as an advisor in marketing, philanthropy and development.

Receiving a Medal (OAM) in the General Division are:

  • Winitha Bonney from Victoria for service to women, to dance, and to the community. Winitha runs Bounczn Dance Company and has served on the council of Ausdance Victoria.
  • Brett Morgan from NSW for service to the performing arts, particularly to dance. Brett is the owner and artistic director of the National College of Dance in Newcastle. Owner and artistic director of National College of Dance in Newcastle and is a former dancer with the Australian Ballet and Sydney Dance Company.

A posthumous award went to Margaret Annette Bartkevicius-James (TAS) for her service to dance, and to the community of Tasmania.
