Nationals Dates for ‘The Carole King Musical’ Announced

Currently playing in Sydney last, it has been confirmed that Beautiful: The Carole King Musical will have seasons in Melbourne, Brisbane and  Adelaide in 2018.

The uplifting Broadway musical, based on the creative life of Carole King, will begin performances at Melbourne’s Her Majesty’s Theatre on  16 February, and play Brisbane’s Lyric Theatre, QPAC from  July 2018 and Adelaide’s Festival Theatre from December 2018.

Tickets for the Melbourne season go on sale to the general public at 9am Monday 30 October, and in early 2018 for Brisbane and Adelaide. Visit  beautifulmusical.com.au to book tickets or sign up to the mailing list.

Producers Michael Cassel, Paul Blake and Mike Bosner said; “We’re thrilled Australian audiences have embraced this show so warmly, and can’t wait to share the inspirational production – and our incredible all- Australian cast – with even more theatregoers across the country.”

Brilliantly talented Esther Hannaford leads a talented cast of 24 performers in the title role of Carole King.  Joining the company in Melbourne, fresh from playing ‘Miss Honey’ on the Australian and New Zealand tour of Matilda, is acclaimed actress Lucy Maunder as ‘Cynthia Weil’. The cast also includes Josh Piterman as ‘Gerry Goffin’, Mat Verevis as ‘Barry Mann’, stage veterans Mike McLeish as ‘Don Kirshner’ and Anne Wood as King’s mother ‘Genie Klein’.

The Australian cast includes: Jason Arrow, Stefanie Caccamo, Doron Chester, Barry Conrad, Andrew Cook, Marcus Corowa, Julia Dray, Akina Edmonds, Nana Matapule, Cameron MacDonald, Lorinda Merrypor, Joseph Naim, Ruva Ngwenya, Naomi Price, Rebecca Selley, Sean Sinclair, Angelina Thomson and Chloé Zuel.

Beautiful: The Carole King Musical is currently playing at  Sydney Lyric Theatre until  Sunday 28 January 2018.

The heart-warming production has received a cavalcade of glowing reviews since the official Australian premiere on 23 September. Audiences have fallen in love with the inspirational true story of the most successful female songwriter of the 20th century.

The musical celebrates Carole King’s remarkable rise to stardom, including her troubled relationship with husband and song-writing partner Gerry Goffin and their close friendship and playful rivalry with fellow songwriting duo Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil.

Long before she was Carole King, the chart-topping music legend, she was an ordinary girl with extraordinary talent. She sold her first hit, ‘Will You Love Me Tomorrow’, at just 17. By the time she was 20 she was writing number ones for the biggest acts in rock ‘n’ roll, including The Drifters, The Shirelles and Aretha Franklin. But it wasn’t until her personal life began to crack that she finally found her own voice and stepped into the spotlight.

The feel-good song list is jam-packed with timeless hits, including ‘You’ve Got a Friend’, ‘Will You Love Me Tomorrow’, ‘It’s Too Late’, ‘Locomotion’, ‘(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman’ and ‘I Feel the Earth Move’, along with chartbusting Mann/Weil tunes such as ‘You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling’ and ‘We Gotta Get Out Of This Place’.

In celebration of the Australian premiere of Beautiful, Sony Music Entertainment Australia has released a brand new tribute record, BEAUTIFUL – A TRIBUTE TO CAROLE KING. It features adaptations of Carole King’s classic songs sung by some of Australia’s favourite performers, including Daryl Braithwaite, Guy Sebastian, Human Nature, Samantha Jade, Dami Im and the musical’s own Esther Hannaford singing title track “Beautiful”.
