Presented by Australian Dance Collective with Special Guest Teachers

6 – 17 January 2020 for Ages 12-17+

Be inspired, let your fire burn bright, push yourself and learn from some of Australia’s most formidable dance artists, including our new company artists!

Most of us learn best in a collaborative environment with input and inspiration from multiple sources.

So, Australian Dance Collective (formerly Expressions Dance Company) are bringing together some of the best dancers from around Australia for the annual Summer Contemporary Dance Intensive to pass on their collective genius and experience to the next generation of movers and makers.

Amazing mentors will join a critically-acclaimed ensemble in helping participants explore and push the boundaries of their creativity, challenge and nurture their ability all while cultivating a strong sense of health and wellbeing through mindfulness and sustainable practices.

Workshops will focus on technique, improvisation, task work, choreographic practice, performance artistry as well as learning repertoire from Stephanie Lake’s Auto Cannibal that featured in the 2019 Season of Matrix.

The program is split into 3 streams:  AWAKEN (ages 12-13), EXPAND (ages 14-16) and FLOURISH (ages 17+)

Jack Lister, Marlo Benjamin and Lonii Garnons-Williams

One student from each stream will win a “money can’t buy” experience of attending our invitation-only Dress Rehearsal to the company’s first QPAC season of 2020, THREE. We will also be selecting one senior student to receive a secondment placement.

Three new ADC company artists will be teaching at the Intensives: Jack Lister, Marlo Benjamin & Lonii Garnon-Williams.

Following his training at The Australian Ballet School, Jack Lister joined Queensland Ballet in 2014 and danced many featured roles in works choreographed by Christopher Bruce, Nils Christe, Jiri Kylian, Liam Scarlett, Trey McIntyre and Natalie Weir. He has created and presented works throughout Australia, United Kingdom, China and Germany. Most recently, Jack was commissioned to create A Brief Nostalgia for The Birmingham Royal Ballet, which, following its premiere in Birmingham, was also performed at Sadler’s Wells Theatre, London. The work was heralded as “entirely original” and “of exceptional maturity and depth”.

Guest Artists: Tyrel Dulvarie, Cass Mortimer Eipper, Teri Crilly, Melanie Lane, Fiona Jopp and Joseph Simons

Marlo Benjamin was born and raised in Sydney, where she began her professional career at the age of 13 performing with Force Majeure, touring both nationally and internationally.
