Don’t Miss Cirque Nocturne

A Seductive Circus Cabaret Inspired by the Dark and Glamorous 40s

Cirque Nocturne are set to get the Melbourne Fringe Festival sizzling this year with a seductive circus cabaret inspired by the Noir-style films of the 1940s.
The show encapsulates the seductive atmosphere of a classic ‘film Noir’, as a down-on-his-luck cynical private investigator navigates his way through a cast of sensuous femme fatales, seedy swindlers and corrupt cops.
Throughout the prevailing dark and moody atmosphere, every character our detective meets has a dazzling circus skill to display whilst he struggles to solve the crime, find love, and most importantly, get paid.
Founded in 2016, Adelaide-based Cirque Nocturne have quickly built a reputation for presenting thrilling and glamorous shows showcasing exceptional circus skill. This will be the first time the company has performed in Melbourne.
Producer and performer Kate Lawrence says of her inspiration for the show, “I have always loved the Noir-style of films, particularly from the 40s. I enjoy the gritty realism of the urban settings that are portrayed in these films, contrasted by the sublime glamour of characterslike femme fatales, and the recognition that the ‘good guys’ have flaws, just like the rest of us. I think that there always seems to be a romance inherent in black and white films.”
With is soundtrack of period and contemporary jazz, the show encapsulates the ambience of vice, corruption and glamour that the Noir genre of films is best known for. With its dark and moody atmosphere, the show features acts by a diverse assortment of circus performers, including jugglers, dancers, contortionists, fire spinners and aerialists.
