After four and a half years leading Australia’s premier centre for independent contemporary dance, Dancehouse, David Tyndall has announced that he will step down as Artistic Director/CEO in early June 2011 to pursue a new career path.
David has led Dancehouse through a most successful growth period and positioned the organisation as an outstanding centre for independent contemporary dance with sustained national influence and growing international influence. It is currently the only presenting theatre dedicated solely to contemporary dance in Australia, and it offers the only national residency developed specifically for independent dance practitioners. From its base in Melbourne, its reputation and influence has crossed state boundaries to shape the artform nationally.
It is Dancehouse’s vision to further strengthen its national influence and expand its international influence over the next five years. With the 20 year anniversary approaching in 2012, a most exciting opportunity now exists for someone to take leadership of Dancehouse and further develop its vision and purpose.
David Tyndall, Artistic Director/CEO says:
‘It has been my privilege and honour to have led this organisation and to deliver program innovations and organisational change that I believe have made a positive contribution to advancing independent contemporary dance. I have been humbled by the courage and enterprise of artists and audiences during my time at Dancehouse. We’ll see that again in the coming months as we present Dance Massive and work on a transition to continue the stable and successful growth Dancehouse has experienced over the past few years.’
Helen Simondson, Chair of the Dancehouse Board says:
‘Through David’s leadership, Dancehouse has developed a most comprehensive artistic program focussing on the development and presentation of contemporary choreographic and movement practices. David’s contribution to Dancehouse has been enormous he has shown vision, creativity and a robust intellect in setting a strong long term vision for the organisation in collaboration with the Dancehouse board. The board thanks David for his work and although we are sad that a person of this calibre is moving on we support his new career aspirations.
David’s legacy is a thriving organisation with great opportunities and promise for the future.’
The position will be advertised in March 2011. The appointment will commence in June 2011.
