Helpmann Awards Gala Entertainment Announced

10 Sensational Performances & Dazzling Array of Guest Presenters

17th Annual Helpmann Awards | 24 July, Capitol Theatre

The 17th Annual Helpmann Awards will be held on Monday 24 July at the Capitol Theatre, Sydney.

The Helpmann Awards are the premier celebration of Australia’s vibrant live performance industry and recognise distinguished achievement and excellence in Australia’s live performance sectors. Nominations for this year’s 42 awards were announced on 19 June across the country. Excitement is building for the announcement of the 2017 winners.

The Helpmann Awards Ceremony this year will be staged on the set of Kinky Boots at the Capitol Theatre and features performances from the musicals My Fair Lady with Reg Livermore, Kinky Boots, Disney’s Aladdin, The Book of Mormon and Beautiful: The Carole King Musical featuring Dami Im and the star of the show Esther Hannaford.

The Living End’s Chris Cheney and Grinspoons’ Phil Jamieson are joined by the cast of Green Day’s American Idiot to perform ’21 Guns’.

Australian Dance Theatre perform a tribute to choreographer Tanja Liedtke with her International success Construct.

The Sydney Children’s Choir present a piece by Sally Whitwell Lux Aeterna for the In Memoriam and the cabaret circus hit Velvet starring Marcia Hines closes the night. 

The hosts for the evening include Queenie van de Zandt, Tim Draxl, Brooke Satchwell, Trevor Ashley, Garry Stewart, David McAllister AM, Stephen Page AM, Richard Mills AM, Emma Mathews, Lyndon Terracini AM, Deborah Hutton, Kate Mulvany, Charles Edwards, Jimmy Barnes AO and many more.

The Executive Producer of the Helpmann Awards, Jon Nicholls, said “this is the largest group of performers we have ever had at the Helpmann Awards, it certainly promises to be the live performance industry’s night of nights.”

The 2017 Helpmann Awards will be broadcast live on Foxtel Arts and webcast free via www.foxtelarts.com.au
