12th Year of the Renowned Dance International Summer School

Under New Creative Direction in 2018

#NameDrop! … Terence Kohler, William Forsythe and Alexander Ekman

PLUS! … Audition for American Ballet Theatre Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School!!

Following eleven successful years operating as a reputable summer arts initiative within the Australian dance scene, International Summer School will return to Sydney in 2018 under the new direction of international choreographer & Artistic Director, Terence Kohler. The program also announces its inclusion of choreographic styles from the acclaimed William Forsythe and Alexander Ekman.

Building on the legacy of former Director, Jacqui Dumont, International Summer School will introduce a series of new workshops and incentives in 2018 that will focus on the creative development of young dancers, including HSC students.

In addition to the popular offerings of junior and senior courses, which have traditionally explored a series of dance styles, the program will expand to provide students with direct access to the work of twenty-first century international choreographers.

The teaching faculty boasts a list of renowned local and international names including Robert LaFosse (American Ballet Theatre Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School), Laura Graham (Ballet Master & Choreographic Assistant, Semperoper Ballett Dresden), Nina Botkay (formerly with Netherlands Dans Theater), Paul Boyd (Queensland Ballet Academy), Jane Devine (formerly with The Royal Ballet, English National Ballet), and will feature English choreographer Cathy Marston as the initiative’s first ‘Choreographer in Residence’.

“Our faculty has been curated to give students exposure to the international arts community, and our workshops are designed to inspire participants creatively. ISS 2018 promises to be our most excited program yet”, commented Artistic Director, Terence Kohler.

As part of the new course offerings, the youth.ballet and create.dance programs provide pre-professional students with introductions to the choreographic styles of acclaimed international artists William Forsythe and Alexander Ekman. Students will also have the rare opportunity to audition for New York’s prestigious American Ballet Theatre Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School through the masterclass.audition series.

“We understand that students are looking for new experiences whilst furthering their knowledge. Our programs are designed to complement the high technical standards of ballet and dance training. We want to foster and inspire the new generation of creatively conscious Australians,” commented Kohler.
