Jack Lister Continues with Queensland Ballet as Associate Choreographer

Moves to Contemporary Company in 2020

2020 heralds a new role at Queensland Ballet (QB) for beloved Company Artist and talented choreographer Jack Lister.

Queensland Ballet congratulates Lister on his engagement with Australian Dance Collective, (formerly Expressions Dance Company), from 2020 and wishes him well as he pursues a contemporary-based dance career.

In the meantime, QB Artistic Director c AO announced Lister will sign on as QB’s Associate Choreographer for next year. Lister joined the company in 2013 and Mr Li acknowledged his contribution both as a dancer and a choreographer.

“Jack started his QB journey in Queensland Ballet’s Pre-Professional Program after graduation from The Australian Ballet School and subsequently became a valued Company Artist.  Over the years, Jack has created some very exciting work, most notably the productions created for the Bespoke seasons, and the recent successful co-production we did with Birmingham Royal Ballet, A Brief Nostalgia,” he said.

“From the very beginning, I saw something quite special in his creativity and his uniqueness and I was very proud to see somebody so young, so courageous, but also just someone who does have unique talent in his choreography and I couldn’t be more proud of what he has achieved with the dancers most recently with Birmingham Royal Ballet.”

After seven years with QB, 25-year-old Lister has decided to move into the contemporary dance world but said he’s looking forward to maintaining strong connections with Queensland Ballet.

“I felt like it was time to make a change professionally and as a dancer, so I can keep growing and challenging myself in new spaces and learn new things in the area of our artform,” he said. “I’m thrilled I will be able to continue the relationship with QB, a company which has been my base as a dancer for the past seven years.

“QB has given me a great foundation to develop as a dancer, and to work with many diverse and talented people, and I’ll always be grateful that they allowed me the opportunity to try my hand at choreography. I’m thrilled to be accepting this opportunity and looking forward to exploring the possibilities which lie ahead of us both.”
