Queensland Ballet Academy Gala

The Talbot Theatre, Thomas Dixon Centre

The Queensland Ballet Academy is set to impress audiences with its highly anticipated annual Gala, an evening that shines the spotlight on the stars last August 9, 2024.

From beloved pieces in the Classical Ballet canon including the famous Le Corsaire Pas de Trois, to works that push the boundaries of neo-classical and contemporary dance, this year’s Gala features a diverse range of repertoire.

Queensland Ballet Academy Director, Christian Tàtchev, expressed his enthusiasm for the event which has already sold out for 2024.

“The Gala is a celebration of the unwavering dedication and exceptional talent of our young dancers at the outset of their promising careers. It provides an invaluable platform for them to showcase their skills, passion, and the results of their hard work.”

Highlighting the Academy’s commitment to fostering new creative voices, a selection of vibrant student-choreographed works are a standout feature of the program.

“The works add a fresh burst of innovation and creativity to the program. This segment is a testament to the Academy’s commitment to nurturing not only exceptional performers but also the next generation of imaginative dance artist,” Mr. Tàtchev said.

Performed in the Talbot Theatre, Queensland Ballet’s state-of-the-art home Theatre, the Gala provides the Academy’s Upper School, Lower School, and Pre-Professional Program dancers with an opportunity to showcase their technical finesse and artistic talents.

Along with the classics, sit works of established creatives including familiar Academy Choreographers Paul Boyd and Louise Deleur.

“I enjoy crafting my work in collaboration with the Academy dancers. I never know quite what the outcome will be, but I’m always moved by the dedication the dancers bring to the process and performance,” Ms. Deleur said.

According to Mr. Boyd the program exemplifies the way the Academy fosters versatile artists.

“The annual Gala is fundamental to the artistic and technical growth of the dancers. It allows them to further discover their skills as versatile future artists which is something we strongly encourage at the Academy”.

Mr. Tàtchev said, the Gala concludes with the Academy Défilé.

“The Academy Défilé is a powerful representation of unity, showcasing the collective strength and potential of our students. It’s a moment of pride for both the performers and the audience.”

“I am immensely proud of the students participating in this year’s Queensland Ballet Academy Gala. Their dedication, passion, and exceptional abilities are a testament to the outstanding quality of our Academy program. It’s truly gratifying to witness their growth and the impact of our commitment to nurturing the next generation of dancers,” he concluded.

The Queensland Ballet Academy Gala takes centre stage at The Talbot Theatre, Thomas Dixon Centre, from 9 to 11 August 2024.
