Following the smash hit success of Legally Blonde: The Musical, independent theatre company Theatrical Inc has revealed its next major production: School of Rock The Musical with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber.
This high-energy cult favourite will rock the National Theatre in St Kilda for a strictly limited season, 1–9 November 2025. Tickets are on sale now via booktickets.com.au.
Casting Melbourne’s Next Rock Stars
Executive Producer Andrew Gyopar and his team have undertaken a meticulous casting process across Melbourne, assembling a diverse and dynamic cast of quadruple-threat performers. True to Theatrical Inc’s mission, the production shines a spotlight on emerging talent, offering opportunities for the next generation of performers to take centre stage.
This exciting new staging will be directed by Regional Tony Award-winner Cody Riker, with musical direction by Mal Fawcett and choreography by Jaimee White.
About the Show
Based on the beloved 2003 Jack Black film, School of Rock follows wannabe rock star Dewey Finn, who scams his way into a substitute teaching job at a prestigious prep school. Discovering a classroom of musically gifted students, Dewey inspires them to “stick it to the man” and form a rock band that just might change their lives forever.
With an award-winning score by Andrew Lloyd Webber and live music performed by the young cast on stage, School of Rock The Musical is packed with energy, humour, and heart. Audiences can also expect classic rock hits including AC/DC’s “It’s A Long Way To The Top (If You Want To Rock ‘n’ Roll)”.
A Community-Driven Vision
“Theatrical Inc has always been about bringing fun to community theatre in a not-for-profit model,” said Executive Producer Andrew Gyopar. “After the success of Legally Blonde, we know School of Rock will deliver the same joy for audiences, cast, and crew. This show encapsulates everything we believe in — chasing your dreams with heart and humour, and finding your own voice.”
Theatrical Inc is committed to inclusive casting, ensuring opportunities for performers of all backgrounds, and reflecting the diversity of modern Australia both on and off stage.
