SMOKE & MIRRORS – FINAL SEASON EXTENDED BY FIVE SHOWS

Five new shows have been added to the final Sydney season of the indomitable Smoke & Mirrors following huge demand for tickets. The extra shows will run from May 10-14. After sell out seasons at Sydney Festival 2010 and 2011, Adelaide Cabaret Festival and Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Smoke & Mirrors returns to Sydney for one final season at the Seymour Centre.
Part vaudeville, part fantasy, Smoke & Mirrors is a lavish and lyrical journey across an illusory landscape. The extraordinary iOTA is the sultry, insatiable and enigmatic ringmaster, accompanied by some dangerously charismatic strangers, all performing a host of original musical numbers backed by a formidable live band.
Created by Craig Ilott and iOTA, Smoke & Mirrors is set in the seductive world of cabaret, with provocateur, shapeshifter and host iOTA introducing the audience to an outrageously talented cast including: Wayne Scott Kermond as the tap-dancing Vaudevillian; the beguiling Queenie van de Zandt as the Bearded Lady; the spell-binding Timothy Woon as the Magician; the gravity-defying Kali Retallack; and the muscles-of-steel troupe ThisSideUp acrobatics of James Brown, Casey Douglas and Christian Schooneveldt-Reid.
The whole kit and caboodle is held together by an electrifying house-band led by Tina Harris, playing an original score written by iOTA (with a bit of help from Eddie Cantor).
Smoke & Mirrors won three 2010 Helpmann Awards for Best New Australian Work, Best Original Score, and Best Cabaret Performer – iOTA.
This final season of Smoke & Mirrors is presented by Lunar Hare Productions, a new production company formed by director/writer Craig Ilott, performer/writer iOTA and independent producer Phil Bathols, which is dedicated to developing new Australian work.
