Prix de Lausanne

International Ballet Competition

The Prix de Lausanne is delighted to announce the fourth edition of its Summer Intensive – European Preselection, scheduled to take place from July 6th to 11th, 2023, at the Béjart Ballet studios in Lausanne. This exclusive Summer programme offers a unique opportunity for a select group of dancers, as it serves as a preselection for the Prix de Lausanne 2024. A total of 47 talented young European dancers from 17 different nationalities will come together for this extraordinary event.

In line with its dedication to nurturing future dance talent, the Fondation en Faveur de l’Art Chorégraphique is organising the fourth edition of its Summer Intensive, serving as the European Preselection for the upcoming Prix de Lausanne competition in 2024.

Candidates from all over Europe

Held at the Béjart Ballet studios in Lausanne, the workshop will span from July 6th to 11th, 2023. Candidates will immerse themselves in a week of rigorous training, consisting of both classical and contemporary classes, alongside receiving invaluable coaching on their classical and contemporary variations from internationally renowned teachers.

A diverse representation of candidates from across Europe has been made possible through video auditions conducted in May. After careful consideration, a Prix de Lausanne jury has selected 47 talented European candidates, hailing from 17 different nations. The highest number of participants come from France and Switzerland, with 17 and 6 candidates respectively.

The participants have been divided into two categories, according to their level.  Among them, 26 will compete in the European Preselection category, where up to four exceptional dancers will earn the coveted opportunity to participate in the Prix de Lausanne 2024, which is scheduled to take place from January 28th to February 4th, 2024, at the Beaulieu Theatre in Lausanne. The other category, of 21 talented young dancers, will partake in an intensive Summer Workshop, providing them with valuable training, guidance, and a chance to familiarise themselves with the technical standards and requirements of the Prix de Lausanne.

Renowned teachers for the young participants

Classes and workshops will be taught by renowned teachers such as:

  • Nicolas Le Riche (Artistic Director of the Royal Swedish Ballet and Étoile at the Paris National Opera Ballet) will be teaching the ballet classes as well as coaching the classical variations for boys.
  • Clairemarie Osta (Head of Ballet department at the Royal Swedish Ballet School and Étoile at the Paris National Opera Ballet) will be coaching the classical variations for girls.
  • Cynthia Harvey (International freelance teacher and former Principal of the American Ballet Theatre will be teaching the ballet classes.
  • Lakey Evans-Peña (Master Teacher of the Horton technique for the Professional Division of The Ailey School) will be teaching contemporary classes.
  • Elena Dombrowski: (Young Creation Award 2023 Choreographer) will be a contemporary coach.
