Sydney Festival 2023 Program Unveiled

Sydney Festival 2023 5-29 January 2023 Sydney Festival 2023 Program has been announced – outlining the incredible 18 World Premieres and 14 Australian Exclusives featured across the full program of over 100 unique events – 26 of which will be free – featuring 748 performances traversing 54 venues.

An exhilarating line-up of vibrant ideas, irrepressible creativity, remarkable talent, and pure summertime revelry across 25 days from 5-29 January 2023.

Returning to the festival after presenting Colossus in 2020, Stephanie Lake Company will raise the spirit and rattle the bones with Manifesto . Composed by Robin Fox and choreographed by Lake, the work brings together nine dancers and nine drummers on nine kits in an explosive ‘tattoo to optimism’, rooted in the ancient and frankly unbeatable symbiosis of dancing and percussion. After an incredible review at the Adelaide Festival and astonishing audiences at Melbourne’s RISING festival, your Sydney readers will finally get their chance to experience the triumph that is this work!

A thrilling deep-dive into the human experience of here and now is a new work produced and commissioned by FORM dance projects, seeing three remarkable Australian talents reunite - composer Elena Kats-Chernin (AO) , choreographer Meryl Tankard (AO) and visual artist Régis Lansac (OAM). A Sydney Festival world premiere production, Kairos will encompass a vast lexicon of human experience and human movement: the dark and challenging; the ugly and beautiful; the humorous and joyful.

From the UK and created in collaboration with legendary dance innovator William Forsythe , Neighbours unites two extraordinary and culturally distinct dancers Brigel Gjoka and Rauf “RubberLegz” Yasit . An abstract b-boy and a contemporary dancer, with Kurdish and Albanian roots respectively, explore what binds and separates us with stellar technique and surprising intimacy in this Australian premiere work.
