Tutus on Tour & Venus Rising

The Royal New Zealand Ballet

Even though the end of the year is fast approaching, the dancers of the RNZB are still in full swing with Tutus on Tour and the upcoming Venus Rising to finish a wonderful 2022 season.

Tutus on Tour is currently touring both North and South, with six more centres left to visit. If you are in one of the remaining centres, you do not want to miss out on this exciting show, perfect for all ages, with something for everyone!

Manukau | 26 October

Takapuna | 28 – 29 October

New Plymouth | 1 November

Christchurch | 5 November

Dunedin | 9 November

Invercargill | 12 November

Venus Rising features three extraordinary works choreographed by three formidable women who have blazed a trail on the international stage.

Wellington | 24 – 26 November

Christchurch | 1 – 3 December

Auckland | 8 – 10 December

Venus Rising captures the spirit of Venus – the brightest of stars, and herald of the dusk and dawn. A sacred goddess of love, beauty and victory over adversity.

Find out about the shows

Paul Mathews retires from the RNZB

After 17 years with the Royal New Zealand Ballet, Principal Paul Mathews is retiring from his distinguished career as a dancer.

Paul has been a core member of the company for countless performances across the country and around the world; he will be sorely missed as he moves on to a new chapter in his life and career.

We’ve seen Paul in lots of costumes over the years, but this one’s pretty special; he has just graduated with a Bachelor of Business (Finance, Japanese minor) from Massey University, after over a decade of extramural study alongside his dance career.

Paul’s final performances with the RNZB will be in Tutus on Tour in Auckland on 26 October (Due Drop Events Centre, Manukau), 28 – 29 October (Bruce Mason Centre, Takapuna) and New Plymouth on 1 November (TSB Showplace).

Thank you, Paul, for everything you have given to ballet lovers and the dance community of Aotearoa, and the best of luck with all your future endeavours!
