Austinmer Dance Theatre presents UNREAL

Sydney Fringe | Sept 5-9

After its May premiere, Austinmer Dance Theatre, the Illawarra’s only professional dance company, will proudly bring their first fully-fledged international triple bill – UNREAL – to the Sydney Fringe Festival.

UNREAL features works created exclusively for the company by three of the contemporary dance world’s major choreographic forces in Maurice Causey, Iratxe Ansa and Spencer Gavin Hering.

UNREAL is a diverse triple bill that invites the viewer to question reality and illusion. It conjures thoughts which challenge the authenticity of paradoxes and how the nature of relationships influence our connections with one another. This trio of fresh contemporary dance is sure to inspire, engage and excite.

Maurice Causey has held both Principal and Dancer roles with such esteemed companies as The Frankfurt Ballet, The National Ballet of Canada, The Cleveland Ballet, The Pennsylvania Ballet and The Gottenburgh Ballet in Sweden and has been Ballet Master for both the Royal Swedish Ballet and The Netherlands Dance Theatre. Maurice visits Australia on an annual basis exclusively to work with Austinmer Dance Theatre and has created three pieces for the company over the last four years.

Throughout her career,Iratxe Ansa has worked with numerous renowned choreographers such as Nacho Duato, William Forsythe, Jiri Kylian, Medhi Walerski, Johan Inger, Ohad Naharin, Mats Ek, Nils Christie and Patrick de Bana among many others.

Upon leaving Netherlands Dance Theatre in 2009 she has been a freelance dance artist and teacher creating workshops in Europe the United States and Australia, choreographing for various Companies as well as working on her own performance projects.

Spencer Gavin Hering has danced as a principal artist with Maximum Dance Company/Ballet Gamonet, Dominic Walsh Dance Theater, Miami Contemporary Dance Company, State Street Ballet as a Principal, Hope Stone Dance Company as a company member and Island Moving Co. as a principal artist. Mr. Hering currently dances as an principal artist and is a Co- Founding Director of iMEE Dance Company. His repertory includes principal roles by acclaimed choreographers that are both current and iconic: David Allan, George Balanchine, Maurice Causey and Anne Marie DeAngelo just to name a few.
