GENESIS to excite in 2017

West Australian Ballet’s most innovative season of the year is just around the corner. Following a sellout season each year running, Genesis is back with only a handful of seats still available.
This unique season gives WAB dancers the opportunity to develop their own artistic practice and show their skills and creative flair in a short, intimate run held at the West Australian Ballet Centre in Maylands.
Artistic Director Aurélien Scannella says “Genesis is a chance for the dancers to explore their creativity, challenge themselves and harness their choreographic talents. It is always a joy to see them grow as artists during this season.”
In 2017, audiences will be treated to new creations by André Santos, Meg Parry, Christopher Hill, Liam Green, Melissa Boniface, Alessio Scognamiglio, Chihiro Nomura, Gakuro Matsui, Phebe Sleeman, Sandy Delasalle-Scannella (Ballet Mistress), Adam Alzaim, and Florence LerouxColéno.
Audiences can expect a diverse range of works, experiencing not only classical ballet but also the power, energy and athleticism of modern and contemporary styles.
Genesis has become a launching pad for WAB’s aspiring talent with works developed during these seasons expanding to be programmed in Ballet at the Quarry and beyond. Most recently, Christopher Hill’s acclaimed The Clearest Light presented at Takuto: Ballet at the Quarry was born out of the 2016 Genesis program. An excerpt from this work will be performed later this month at a gala in Jakarta, Indonesia.
“Genesis is the perfect testing ground for new ideas.” Hill says. “I’ve been so fortunate that Aurélien has seen my work in Genesis and subsequently invited me to develop main stage work for the company. None of this would have been possible without our Genesis program.”
