Your Diva ‘Rhubard Rouge’ aka Ricky Beirao

The Divas are coming to Melbourne

Cher, Madonna, Beyonce, Boy George or Prince … Who is your Diva?

One Night Only | Jan 20

In 2015, What a Drag! An Exhibition about the history of Drag in Melbourne was one of the Midsumma Festival‘s most popular events. An exhibition detailing over 60 years of Melbourne Drag, together with a drag showcase featuring drag queens from six different decades.
Now in it’s fourth year , What a Drag! is a celebration and showcase of the vibrant Melbourne Drag Scene. An Annual fundraiser with a lot of glamour, glitter, talent and fun What a Drag! is back to help raise funds for VAC (Victorian Aids Council) with this year’s theme of DIVAS!
Over 20 of Melbourne’s most talented and sought after drag queens will grace the stage for a non stop 2 hours of drag performances bringing to the crowds their favorite divas and their hits including Madonna, Kylie Minogue, Whitney Houston and to spice it up even some male divas including George Michael and Prince.
The list of performers include Melbourne Drag Legends like Barbra Quicksand, Laura Gravity, Amena Jay ALura, Missy La Min’x , Bumpa Love, Lexi Gaga and a lot more.
“It has become a big event and a must-do on the Drag Calendar and the Midsumma Festival. Every year it get’s bigger and better and everyone get’s excited to see what we will come up with. Melbourne has a hugely diverse and talented drag community and it is really inspiring and it feels great to bring them together for such a special cause,” says producer Ricky Beirao.
Everybody will be dancing and singing and moving non stop with DJ David Virgona playing between shows and through the night. Beirao adds: “It’s always a fantastic party atmosphere, a fabulous party inside The Chapel, the only other bigger party inside The Chapel will be when marriage equality gets approved!”

Ricky Beirao transforms into Rhubarb Rouge

Beirao, who is also known as his alter ego Rhubarb Rouge, who will be hosting the evening. Originally from Brazil, Beirao performed for many years in New Zealand before moving to Australia and discovering the unique history of Melbourne’s drag scene. Inspired by real-life stories, Beirao embarked on this project, developing an exhibition that captured the spirit and history of Melbourne Drag.
Proudly supported by Chapel Off Chapel, City of Stonnington, Hampstead Dental and Smart Choice Dental.
