Bringing Your Best To Life. The Power of One Simple Question

The Joymaker: Article Six

Author Christine Denny

Hello again and welcome back to The Joy Maker!

This month’s blog is really short and sweet. And it is really just the posing of this one simple but profound question:

Instead of asking what life can do for you – ask what you can bring to life.

No doubt ,you may recognize that this concept has come from the great John F Kennedy and his famous Inauguration Speech. But I feel the sentiments expressed back then, are as relevant today as they ever were. And this famous quote can be applied to all aspects our lives: personal, familial and business.

Instead of waiting for someone else to take action and make your life or your community a little better, perhaps you can look at implementing this thought process to activate some positive change in your own communities.

We seem to live in an age where everyone is waiting for others to ” do something “.

An age of complaining and criticising and moaning.

But I ask – what for and why?

We live in a spectacular Universe full of potential and potentiality and all we need to do is contribute.

So today I challenge you to start doing one small thing that makes a positive impact upon your own environment, whether it be in your community, your work place, your dance studio or your home.

Just come up with one small thing that will make your little corner of the world a better place to be.

You might start a book exchange.

You might volunteer once a week.

You might help with a reading programme at your child’s school.

You may decide to start a 15 minute morning meditation at your workplace.

You may offer to sweep your elderly neighbours porch once a week.

You may go and visit someone in hospital who needs some support at the moment.

You may sit and listen when someone needs that attention – even though you are rushed and busy.

Imagine if every person on the planet actively engaged in making their little corner of the world a better place, each and every day.

Wow – what a shift we would see.

So once more I pose the question:

Instead of asking what the world can do for you – ask yourself what you can do for the world.

It is that simple.

And we can apply this to both our personal and work lives.

Looking from a personal perspective imagine asking the question:

What can I bring to life today?

And you can find many examples from the suggestions above.

Looking from the Principal of a Dance Studio perspective you may ask:

What can I bring to my teachers and staff today?

And what can I bring to my students today?

Meanwhile your teachers could be asking:

What can I bring to my boss to make my contribution to the studio better today?

And what can I bring to my students in each class?

And then the students could be thinking:

What can I bring to my studio to make it more vibrant and fun?

And what can I bring to each class and my teachers and fellow students to make it more fun and productive?

And finally you may have the parents asking:

What can I bring to my child’s experience of her dance classes to make it a positive and  life affirming experience?

What can I contribute to my dance school to make it a fun, vibrant, positive and uplifting experience for everyone?

What can I do for the studio, the principal and the teachers to make their dance school experience the best it can be?

What can I bring to the other parents to bring our dance studio community to life with fun and support?

In short – imagine if everyone came at life from the perspective of what can I bring to this community, as opposed to what can I get out of it.

That one small change in perspective from everyone involved in the situation could totally change the dynamic of the entire environment.

And with that thought I shall leave you and wish you a magical day of conjuring marvellous things for your dance studios and communities.

Maybe you can start a WHAT CAN I BRING AWARENESS DAY to your studio this month? Or maybe you can send out a newsletter posing the question? Or maybe you can have a round table discussion with all your teachers about it?

Whatever it is – taking action and asking the question “ What can I bring to life?” could bring much JOY and totally reimagine the way you interact with your world, both at home and at work.
