Young Creation Award

For the first time, the Prix de Lausanne is setting up a whole evening dedicated to the choreographic projects carried out with its partner school students. Two young choreographers have thus won the Young Creation Award for their respective original choreographies tonight after performing it in front of the Jury and the public of the Beaulieu Theatre. The evening ended with a public rehearsal of the Partner School Choreographic Project, which allowed to dive into the work in progress of 24 young dancers and Goyo Montero. The creation will be unveiled as a world-premiere during the Prix de Lausanne Finals’ Interlude, this Saturday 4 February.

Winners of the Young Creation Award 2023

56 students (35 girls and 21 boys) from the Prix de Lausanne partner schools and companies have applied to this third edition of the Young Creation Award. After a video selection of the submitted variations, five choreographers were selected to come to Lausanne to adjust the coaching and finalise their creation under the guidance of dance professionals. Tonight, the five finalists presented their original creation danced by a fellow student of their school. The aim of this choreographic competition which takes place in parallel to the Prix de Lausanne, is both to stimulate choreographic creation and also introduce young dancers to the art of coaching and a potential career in choreography.

The two winners of this 2023 edition are:

  • Elena DOMBROWSKI with her variation “Tout va bien ?“, danced by Tom Bellec (Pôle National Supérieur de Danse Rosella Hightower). Music: “Respawn” by Vieveri
  • Aleisha WALKER with her variation “Do you care?“, danced by Madison Brown (ABT Studio Company). Music: “Nocturnal Waltz” by Johannes Bornlof

The two winning choreographies will be added to the contemporary repertoire of the Prix de Lausanne 2024. Their two choreographers will be invited to the next competition to coach the candidates who will have chosen these variations.

Partner School Choreographic Project

The Beaulieu Theatre’s audience and the Prix de Lausanne’s web audience were able to enjoy a public rehearsal of the Choreographic project. The choreographer Goyo Montero only had one week to imagine and create an original piece with 24 young dancers from our partner institutions. The result of the week’s work will be presented during the Finals’ Interlude this Saturday 4 February, in the theatre or via the livestream.
