Aussies Headed to 2017 Prix de Lausanne

10 Australians Selected for the Prix de Lausanne

45th Annual International Competition for Young Ballet Dancers

The video jury of the Prix de Lausanne has chosen 74 candidates, representing 18 different nations, to participate in the next phase of the competition for young ballet dancers, which will take place in Lausanne, Switzerland, from January 30 – February 4 next year.
This year saw 338 candidates (244 girls and 94 boys) from 36 different countries apply for the video selection that took place in Prix de Lausanne’s office from October 27th to 30th, 2016.

Artistic Director Shelly Power wishes to acknowledge the valor of each applicant:
“This year is a remarkable year due to the unprecedented amount of applicants wishing to take part in Prix de Lausanne. A lot of preparation goes into these videos and we wish to applaud each student’s efforts. The jury was careful to recognize the potential of each candidate and although only a select few were chosen it should not discourage others in their future goals. The Prix offers a unique experience unlike any other competition and has done so for 44 years. We congratulate those selected and look forward to the 45th anniversary of Prix de Lausanne”.
48 Australian dancers entered with 10 talented individuals being selected to progress:

Thomas Dilley (Premiere Elite)
Heidi Freeman (KCs School of Dance)
Brayden Gallucci (Alegria Dance Studios)
Abby Morgan (Classical Coaching Australia)
Joshua Jack Price (Amanda Bollinger Dance Academy)
Jessi Seymour (Alegria Dance Studio)
Alexander Smith (Tanya Pearson Classical Coaching)
Tyla Steinbach (Tanya Pearson Classical Coaching Australia)
Isabella Wagar (Jane Moore Academy of Ballet)
In 2015, Australian Harrison Lee won the prestigious competion and is now studying a The Royal Ballet in London.

Created in 1973, the Prix de Lausanne is an annual international competition for young dancers aged 15 to 18. Its goal is to discover, promote and support the world’s finest young talents. 68 of the world’s most prestigious dance schools and companies, such as the Royal Ballet School in London, the Vaganova Ballet Academy in St. Petersburg, and the Stuttgart Ballet in Germany, are associated with the Prix de Lausanne and support its activities. One of a kind, the Prix de Lausanne represents an exceptional platform for discovering youthful talent. It is open to dance professionals who can observe and establish contacts with the candidates, thereby transforming Lausanne into the world’s capital for young dancers during the week of the competition.
