Dancenorth now accepting applications

In 2018, Dancenorth is continuing its commitment to increase support within the sector through the Artist Residency in the Tropics (A.R.T.) program.
In 2018 Dancenorth is expanding their support further by offering five residencies between April and December 2018. Applications are now being accepted for the first 3 residencies and one cross-artform residency.

4-15 June and 6-17 August // Dance Residencies
Dancenorth’s A.R.T. program offers independent art practitioners the opportunity to live and work in the pristine environs of Tropical North Queensland – a landscape thoroughly conducive to creativity. A.R.T. residents are afforded time and space away from the familiarity of their usual surroundings, enabling not only space for reflection, research and development, but entirely new experiences from which to draw creative inspiration.
For the first time, Dancenorth is expanding the A.R.T. program to offer opportunities not only to independent dancers, but also to arts companies, community groups and individual artists seeking support for an arts-related project. The newly created inaugural Individual Artist/Arts Company/Community Group Residency will offer the opportunity to utilise a Dancenorth studio space for 2 weeks to undertake a project across any art form. This residency could be used for development of new work, or delivery of a community-based project. A bursary of $3000 will be provided and basic technical support throughout this period thanks to support from the Australian Government’s Regional Arts Fund.
The A.R.T. residencies also provide an invaluable mentoring opportunity, connecting the practitioners with exposure to Dancenorth Artistic Director Kyle Page, Associate Artistic Director Amber Haines and Executive Director Hillary Coyne, to enable and facilitate a sharing of knowledge and creative vision, whilst also creating a reciprocal exchange.
“In 2016 we dreamt up a program called A.R.T. (Artist Residency in the Tropics). A.R.T. was our response to funding cuts across the country, a small but heartfelt offering to support independent artists. 2018 sees Dancenorth go one better as we offer a number of fully funded residencies for individuals and groups. We are seriously excited to expand this program by offering cash support to the tune of $5,000 for two dance practitioners to spend two weeks living and working in the sublime tropical environment of North Queensland. We are also offering $5,000 and two weeks of studio space to a first nations artist through a partnership with Pryce Centre for Culture and Arts and $3,000 for a local arts community group or individual,” says Amber Haines.

Dancenorth is supported with funding from regional arts fund, an Australian Government program that is designed to benefit regional and remove arts practitioners, art workers, audiences and communities.
