AMERICAN CHOREOGRAPHER, ERICA SOBOL IN AUSTRALIA!

A name synonymous in the American Contemporary dance scene, Los Angeles based choreographer Erica Sobol will be arriving in Sydney on Friday for Workshops in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
Erica Michelle Sobol, an L.A. native who works as a choreographer and teacher in her hometown, has caught the International dance community’s eye. She’s a fearless choreographer whose work combines contemporary and modern vocabulary with pedestrian movement. Erica also uses animalistic movement with a touch of fluidity and vulnerability. And all of her work is punctuated by her sparkling energy.
Erica earned a BA in dance-theater from Barnard College at Columbia University and began her professional dance training at Broadway Dance Center, working frequently under Wes Veldink, David Marquez, Michele Assaf, and Rhapsody James. She also began her teaching career in New York, serving as a faculty member at Manhattan’s Peridance.
She has worked as a master instructor at several dance studios all over the world, including BDC in Tokyo, Pineapple in London, Harmonic in Paris, and Skip on Guam. Erica is a permanent teacher at Debbie Reynolds, Millenium, Playback Studios and is on Faculty at the Edge Performing Arts Center.
Erica Michelle Sobol is the founder and artistic director of collidEdance, an ever-evolving professional dance company dedicated to blurring the line between dance and theater. The company’s Brooklyn, NY debut in 2004 received rave reviews and enjoyed five straight soldout performances. collidE, now based in Los Angeles, had its West Coast debut in 2008. Adding to her extensive list of professional accolades, Erica choreographed a Contemporary performance for So You Think You Can Dance USA (Series 6).
On Sunday October 17th, OOKINA MANAGEMENT + BRENT STREET proudly present ‘The Erica Sobol : Industry Workshop’. Over 4 hours, Sydney based dancers will have the opportunity to listen, learn and be inspired by one of the International masters of Contemporary dance. Assisted by renowned Sydney based Choreographer, Sarah Stollery, Erica looks forward to working with Australian performers, as she makes her Australian teaching debut.
