Adelaide Cabaret Festival Announce Waitlist for Popular Headline Events

Alan Cumming Is Not Acting His Age & Variety Gala

Since it was announced in June that Scottish-American all-round performer Alan Cumming would be the first international artistic director of the 2021 Adelaide Cabaret Festival, and premiering his new show, interest exploded and ticket sales were almost exhausted. Read announcement article here.

The Festival will take place over June 11-26 at the Adelaide Festival Centre.

Now due to popular demand, Adelaide Cabaret Festival fans can join the waitlists for further ticket releases to headline shows Alan Cumming Is Not Acting His Age and The Variety Gala, following both performances close to selling out their early allocations within days.

The Adelaide Cabaret Festival Artistic Director’s own show will be a thrilling evening of story and song, celebrating and exploring Cumming’s puckish, eclectic spirit and joie de vivre. The one night only performance is set to close the festival at Adelaide Festival Centre’s Festival Theatre on June 26.

Bringing a touch of New York to Adelaide, audiences can experience Alan Cumming’s famous bar Club Cumming each weekend of the festival, as it takes its place as the late-night hub in The Famous Spiegeltent. New York’s iconic venue will overflow with hedonistic delights, live performances and raucous Cumming DJ sets until 2am between June 11 – 26.

Back with a bang, and a glittering host, the 21st anniversary Adelaide Cabaret Festival Variety Gala will light up the Festival Theatre stage with international award-winning Hans hosting this festival favourite event. Cabaret lovers can re-emerge dressed in their best, with the red-carpet rolling out on opening night, June 11. The Variety Gala will be hosted by Adelaide’s own, Hans the German, where guests will enjoy a night of cabaret gaiety in celebration of the fierce resurgence of this beloved Festival.

Those on the waitlists will get first access to further ticket releases in the hopes that Adelaide Festival Centre venues will be able to operate at full capacity by June, pending SA Health advice. Adelaide Cabaret Festival performances are currently selling at 50 per cent capacity in non-checkerboard seating (i.e. no empty seats between patrons).

Adelaide Festival Centre’s Director of Programming & Development Liz Hawkins: “It is extremely encouraging to see audiences purchase tickets and respond so passionately to the announcement of our first six shows for Adelaide Cabaret Festival 2021. This further proves there is a real appetite for a return to live performance and for people to reconnect as a community while supporting our valued artists and the wider arts sector.

“We are grateful to those who have already purchased tickets and would love to give the opportunity for more people to experience two of our most popular shows, including the king of cabaret himself and our new Artistic Director, Alan Cumming in action.

“While we are currently selling shows at 50% audience capacity as advised by SA Health, we are hopeful that we will be able to operate at a greater or full capacity by June next year and release further tickets in coming months. Join the waitlist to be the first to know.”

Cumming’s new cabaret show ‘Alan Cumming Is Not Acting His Age‘, is an evening of story and song celebrating and exploring his puckish, eclectic spirit and joie de vivre, is set to close the festival with a joyful and glittering bang. Cumming has sung in concert halls across the globe, including the Sydney Opera House, the London Palladium, the Hollywood Bowl and Carnegie Hall. He’s played God, the Devil, Hitler, the Pope, a teleporting superhero, Hamlet, all the parts in Macbeth, and the EmCee in Cabaret in the West End and on Broadway. Spend an intimate evening with a truly remarkable performer and celebrate the final night of the 21st Adelaide Cabaret Festival.

Limited tickets are still available for the two popular events as part of the first six shows announced for Adelaide Cabaret Festival 2021 under the Artistic Direction of Tony-Award winning performer Alan Cumming.

To date, six shows have been announced for the Festival’s program: L’Hôtel, Betty Blokk Buster, Selina Jenkins’ BOOBS, Club Cumming, Alan Cumming Is Not Acting His Age along with the Variety Gala.

The full program for the Adelaide Cabaret Festival will  launch in March 2021.
