
The Royal Academy of Dance has announce that the Genée International Ballet Competition 2017 will be held in Lisbon, Portugal, from 7–16 September.
This follows on from the success of the 2016 Genée held in Sydney, Australia, last December. [You can still view the recording of the 2016 Genée Final – Available until 11 March 2017.]
Coaching will take place at the studios of Companhia Nacional de Bailado (CNB) from 8–12 September. The Semi-finals will be held at BBVA Tivoli on 13 & 14 September, with the Final at Teatro Camões on 16 September.
Lisbon is Portugal’s beautiful coastal capital and is Europe’s second-oldest capital after Athens. With its mixture of history, tradition, and vibrant contemporary culture, we are hugely excited about Lisbon playing host to the competition for the very first time
Candidate applications open on 1 July. For eligibility criteria visit the RAD.
Two Genée bursary funds will be offered again this year, providing financial support for candidates from any country. The Darcey Bussell Genée Bursary and the Dame Margot Fonteyn Scholarship Fund bursary awards start at £1,000 (or local currency equivalent) and will assist with entry fees, travel, and other associated costs.
