INFINITUM Explores Sound & Movement

In a Live, Roaming Walk Performance

16th – 23rd September

INFINITUM is a new live dance and sound work created by award winning artists Gareth Hart (Dance) and Roderick Price (Sound) as part of the 2016 Melbourne Fringe Festival.
INFINITUM is performed to a roving audience through the cobblestoned alleyways of North Melbourne, from Friday 16th September to Friday 23rd September 2016.
Using a range of sensitive microphones, Sound Artist Rod Price captures the sounds of a live dancing body within the urban environment. These sounds are mixed, distorted and manipulated into a live sound score for the work. INFINITUM is a meeting of audio generative movement, glitch art theory, and real time generative sound looping.
The work maps our aural and sensory relationships with the urban environment of North Melbourne, with dance and sound being created live throughout the performance, based upon sounds captured via highly sensitive microphones.  INFINITUM is a walking tour of the back alleys of North Melbourne.
Set against the fading evening light, INFINITUM explores the aural and textural relationships between space, body and environment. As a continuous feedback loop between body, sound and space, INFINITUM is constantly reborn within the context of its own immediate history.
This is the first collaboration between Hart and Price, who have spent the majority of 2016 trialing versions and ideas of the work. In April 2016 a 10 minute version of the work was presented in an outdoor dance tour of the Dandenong Ranges, and in June 2016 was curated as part of the 2016 TEDx St Kilda Conference.
