New Tickets Released for EVITA starring Tina Arena

Sydney Opera House | Sept 2018

Due to overwhelming demand, new tickets have been released for the upcoming production of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s EVITA.
Opera Australia, John Frost and David Ian are bringing this acclaimed original West End and Broadway production of EVITA back to the stage at the Joan Sutherland Theatre at the Sydney Opera House from 13 September 2018.
Broadway legend Hal Prince, who turned 90 on 30 January this year, has returned to direct of one of the most celebrated classical musicals of all time, with Australian icon, singer, songwriter and musical theatre star Tina Arena as leading lady Eva Perón.

Tina Arena will star as Eva Peron

This recreated production, with an international cast, has just completed a South African tour and now heads to Asia before it arrives in Australia with an Australian cast. Critics in South Africa have praised it with rave reviews, calling it a “must-see show’’ and labelling the production as “one that would deserve a standing ovation anywhere in the world.’’ When describing the iconic balcony scene, one critic stated of Hal Prince that ‘’his genius is felt on the stage’’, that his ‘’production brings to life all of the iconic scenes one knows from the old production… and the effect is stunning, especially when combined with Larry Fuller‘s often witty choreography.”
Producer John Frost said, “We have been blown away by the interest in this production although not altogether surprised. With the winning combination of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s iconic musical, legendary Broadway master Hal Prince’s vision and the sublime Tina Arena as Eva Perón, theatre-goers are in for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. To see Australian audiences responding only cements what we already suspected.”
Lyndon Terracini, Artistic Director of Opera Australia, added, “We are so excited to have assembled the world’s finest creative team for this lavish 40th anniversary production. With Hal’s guidance and a wonderful cast to tell this iconic story, audiences can expect a stunning visual masterpiece.”
Featuring some of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s best loved songs including Don’t Cry For Me Argentina, On This Night of a Thousand Stars, You Must Love Me and Another Suitcase in Another Hall, EVITA charts the story of Eva Perón, wife of former Argentine dictator Juan Perón, from her humble beginnings through to the extraordinary wealth, power and status which ultimately led her to be heralded as the ‘spiritual leader of the nation’.
The musical captured the attention of the public when it was first staged in 1978, and now in its 40th year and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s 70th year, Opera Australia, John Frost and David Ian are thrilled to bring this “modern masterpiece” (New York Post) to Australia in all its original glory.
Produced by special arrangement with The Really Useful Group.
