After winning over audiences in Melbourne, the hit musical My Brilliant Career is set to shine even brighter with a national tour in 2026.
Based on Miles Franklin’s beloved novel, the production has been reimagined by Sheridan Harbridge, Dean Bryant and Mathew Frank, under the direction of Anne-Louise Sarks. Since premiering in 2024, it has earned rave reviews, sold-out shows, and five Green Room Awards — including Outstanding Production.
Following its Melbourne encore season at Southbank Theatre, the musical will hit the road with stops in Canberra, Sydney, and Wollongong.
2026 Tour Dates
Melbourne – 23 Jan to 28 Feb | Southbank Theatre
Canberra – 7 to 15 Mar | Canberra Theatre Centre
Sydney – 21 Mar to 26 Apr | Roslyn Packer Theatre
Wollongong – 8 to 17 May | Illawarra Performing Arts Centre
At the heart of the show is Kala Gare, reprising her role as the bold and fiery Sybylla Melvyn, supported by much of the original actor-musician cast. Expect the same high-energy staging, stunning sets and costumes by Tony Award-winner Marg Horwell, and a dynamic score that mixes contemporary pop with bush ballads and pub rock.
Director Anne-Louise Sarks calls the tour “a defining moment” for Melbourne Theatre Company:
“After the incredible response from Melbourne audiences, we’re excited to share this bold new version of an Australian classic with audiences right across the country.”
Sydney Theatre Company’s Artistic Director Mitchell Butel agrees:
“The way it rocks a literary classic into a punk period piece is pure perfection. I know Sydney audiences will fall in love with this musical as much as I have.”
With wit, heart, and a rebellious spirit, My Brilliant Career is more than just a musical — it’s a celebration of Australian storytelling at its best.
