MY FAIR LADY

Returns to Sydney’s Capitol Theatre August 2017

Due to unprecedented demand, Lerner & Loewe’s My Fair Lady will return to Sydney next year and play at The Capitol Theatre for its Sydney encore.
Directed by Julie Andrews and presented by Opera Australia’s Lyndon Terracini and John Frost, My Fair Lady will return to Sydney on Sunday 27 August 2017 following its seasons in Brisbane and Melbourne.
The return production will have a new home in the prestigious CAPITOL THEATRE.  Tickets on sale from Monday November 7.
The current season of My Fair Lady at the Sydney Opera House closed on November 5 after smashing box office records for selling more tickets than any other production in the history of the Sydney Opera House!
The cast for the 2017 return season at the Capitol Theatre will be announced in the coming months.
This stunning recreation of the 1956 beloved Broadway musical, directed by stage and screen legend Julie Andrews, has received rapturous reviews since it opened on September 6 at the Joan Sutherland Theatre, Sydney Opera House.

‘Julie Andrews delivers bloomin’ lovely anniversary show’ – Sydney Morning Herald
‘Julie Andrews re-creates classic original with a show that truly sings’ – The Guardian
‘My Fair Lady’s combination of George Bernard Shaw’s dry, acerbic British wit and the emotional  forthrightness of the American musical is undeniably potent.’ – Daily Review
‘My Fair Lady stands head and shoulders above the crowd.’ – Limelight

NSW Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events Stuart Ayres said “The 60th Anniversary production of My Fair Lady has been a huge success for Sydney, breaking box office records and attracting visitors who contributed an estimated $7 million in overnight visitor expenditure for NSW. I congratulate all involved and am delighted in the role the NSW Government has played in securing the production and to see that it will return to Sydney next year.”
Producer Lyndon Terracini, the Artistic Director of Opera Australia, said “The ongoing success of this 60th Anniversary production of My Fair Lady has been a remarkable achievement for all involved. It’s been quite exhilarating to watch its popularity soar, so we’re delighted to be bringing it back to Sydney for all those who missed it the first time around, or those who loved it and are keen to see it again.”
This production of My Fair Lady celebrates the 60th Anniversary of the musical which took the world by storm, telling the tale of a Cockney flower girl named Eliza Doolittle whose world was forever changed by the brilliant and demanding phoneticist, Professor Henry Higgins.  The clash of cultures sparks some of theatre’s most witty dialogue and wonderful songs.
