Cast Ignites American Idiot’s Rock Cred

The cast of the much-anticipated Australian premiere of GREEN DAY’s AMERICAN IDIOT have finally been announced! Legitimate Australian rock talents Chris Cheney (lead guitar & vocals in The Living End) and Phil Jamieson (Grinspoon’s frontman) will headline a supremely talented cast of Australian artists drawn from over 600 national auditions.
AMERICAN IDIOT will play at Brisbane’s QPAC from February 23.
Cheney and Jamieson will both play the lead role of St Jimmy: Cheney will play the role from February 23rd – 26th, with Jameson taking over the gig from Feb 28th onwards.

The show’s artistic director, Nick Skubij said: “We had over 600 people from across the nation audition for parts and believe we have on board a collection of the most authentic and talented performers. Who better to portray this electric story than actual rock stars themselves?”
“We are stoked to have two iconic Australian band front men, Chris Cheney and Phil Jamieson, along with a hugely talented group of young musical theatre stars and an acclaimed creative team.”

Also joining this exciting production in featured roles are Ben Bennett (Johnny), Alex Jeans (Will), Cameron MacDonald (Tunny), Ashleigh Barlow (Heather), Phoebe Panaretos (Whatsername) and Rowena Vilar (Extraordinary Girl).
The ensemble cast also include Kurt Phelan, Madison Green, Christopher Scalzo, Nicholas Kyriacou, and Lorinda Merrypor.

Winner of two Tony Awards and the 2010 Grammy  Award winner for Best Musical Show Album, AMERICAN IDIOT is the story of three boyhood friends, each searching for meaning in a post 9/11 world. The show features the music of Green Day with the lyrics of its lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong and book by Billie Joe Armstrong and Michael Mayer.
This premiere Australian show will be directed by multi-award winning Craig Ilott (Velvet, Virgin Bride, Band of Magicians, La Boheme, Pacha); and choreogrpahy will be by Lucas Newland (Absinthe, Velvet, Vegas Nocturne, Brent Street).
This thrilling new musical has had Green Day fans in rapture and introduced a generation of theatregoers to their powerful and moving musical style. So come and discover what all the noise is about!
This high-octane show includes every song from Green Day‘s album American Idiot, as well as several songs from follow-up release, 21st Century Breakdown.
