Get ready to hit the dance floor! Saturday Night Fever – The Musical is set to take over Melbourne’s Athenaeum Theatre from January 8 to 25, 2026, following a smash-hit Perth season that wowed audiences and critics alike.
This spectacular, reimagined version of the iconic disco musical comes direct from award-winning director and choreographer Drew Anthony, marking his highly anticipated return to Melbourne’s stages after almost two decades. Expect explosive energy, breathtaking choreography, dazzling costumes and those timeless Bee Gees hits that defined a generation — including Stayin’ Alive, Night Fever, How Deep Is Your Love, Tragedy and More Than a Woman.
A fresh take on a cult classic
Set in 1970s Brooklyn, Saturday Night Fever follows Tony Manero — a nineteen-year-old paint store clerk who becomes king of the local disco every weekend. When Tony teams up with the ambitious Stephanie Mangano for a dance competition, the pair’s partnership blossoms into a deep friendship that challenges them both to re-examine their dreams and identities.
Based on the 1977 film that made John Travolta a household name and redefined fashion, music and film culture, this new stage production combines nostalgia with a bold contemporary edge. A stunning digital set design transports audiences to the gritty streets of Brooklyn, while Drew Anthony’s choreography brings the pulse of the disco era into 2026.
Critically acclaimed creative team
The Perth production of Saturday Night Fever earned multiple BroadwayWorld Awards (2024), including Best Direction, Best Scenic Design, and Best Performer.
“I am thrilled to be returning to Melbourne stages with this fabulous show,” says Director Drew Anthony. “Saturday Night Fever cleverly uses music and dance to explore the characters’ search for identity and belonging. The cast we’ve assembled is phenomenal — and there’s nowhere else I’d rather bring this show right now than Melbourne.”
