Back by popular demand, Sing-A-Long-A Sound of Music returns to the State Theatre for two evening performances (Friday 25 & Saturday 26 February, 2011 7:30pm), with a third additional matinee show added to keep pace with ticket sales (Sunday 27 Feb 1.00pm).
Sing-A-Long-A Sound of Music is an unforgettable audience participation event and a night of unparalleled entertainment.
Have you ever been to a musical and had an uncontrollable urge to burst into song! Well now’s your chance. The Sound of Music features the most irresistible score in movie musical history and includes a cast of characters known to virtually everyone. Go on admit it you know the words! And even if you don’t, the movie comes with song sub-titles on the big screen so that everyone can sing-a-long shamelessly and loudly about their favourite things!
Once again the State Theatre aisles will come alive with the sound of music as the lyrics to favourites such as Climb Every Mountain; Do-Re-Mi and I am Sixteen appear on the big screen. And as Maria merrily points out, “When you know the notes to sing, you can sing most anything!”
Leading Sound of Music’s loyal fans over every mountain and through every stream will be celebrity host; Katrina Retallick – The Chaser, Comedy Inc, Grease the Mega Musical, The New Rocky Horror Show, Accidents Happen; Katrina guides the audience on their full adventure…….more than a ‘drop of golden sun’, Katrina takes a pre-screening vocal warm up and cajoles the audience in song and action, gives a guide to the use of the interactive fun-pack and accompanying actions and judges the spectacular audience costume parade – a definite highlight of the night!
The costumes are truly inspiring. Audience members have dressed as anything and everything from the movie…. Maria, girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes, Plumbers (Christopher Plummers!) the Alps, brown paper packages tied up with string, goats (with or without lonely goatherds), larks that are learning to pray – the possibilities are endless….. limited only by your imagination!!
An irresistible force takes over, as delirious fans cheer on Julie Andrews, wolf-whistle Christopher Plummer, hiss the Baroness and boo the Nazis! And who could forget the glorious moment when Maria and the Captain finally kiss? Not to mention the experience of 2000 party poppers going off simultaneously as their lips touch!
So what are you waiting for! Frock up for the ultimate musical affirmation; a celebration of nature, spirituality, love, family, patriotism, and goodness, combined with perfectly pitched songs, and the screen presence of feisty, Julie Andrews
Round up your favourite friends, take your vows, and tear down the curtains, clear your throats, fill your lungs and take your seats as you the audience, become the stars of the show.
